This began as an educational video project that sought to encapsulate global issues in local contexts. My original goal was to inform high school students about local environmental issues in order to sharply focus the broad scope of the ecological crisis. Through the investigatory process, however, I encountered pertinent social issues that I couldn’t ignore despite my environmental theme. Terms like “environmental racism” were brought to my attention and the focus of the video began to change. I was inspired by the children I work with at The Edible Peace Patch Project as well as people in the community who are actively combating the nexus of environmental and social problems.
